Hiding in plain sight

The enemy uses any distraction he can to keep us from being able to get everything we need from the Lord.

SCRIPTURE: Genesis 3:8-9

VERSE FOR TODAY: “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

We have things that we are trying to hide and worship God at the same time. The enemy uses any distraction he can to keep us from being able to get everything we need from the Lord. Sometimes it’s when you’re reading your devotional in the morning, but then your mind wanders to what’s on Facebook, what you need to cook for dinner, and the list of other things you need to do. Sometimes it’s as simple as being in church trying to worship and starting to worry about how you look and what people are thinking about you.

We don’t want people to see things in us that will cause them to judge us, to question us, so we try to hide. We do the same thing with God. We have things in our lives that we try to hide from Him as if we really could but things are hidden in plain sight. God sees everything. For example Adam and Eve, God created the Garden yet when they fell into sin they tried to hide Genesis 3:8-9 “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” Even though God knew He still asked the question because he wants us to admit our sins. God just wants us to go straight to Him, talk and commune with Him. He wants us to stop trying to hide things and just bring them to Him.

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Sometimes we think we can do good things to correct our sins but God sent Jesus to die so that we didn’t have to try. We can stop trying to hide things and tell Him, “Lord I know you have already seen and know these thoughts, I know you know this anger is here, this bitterness, unforgiveness it is useless for me to continue to try to hide from you.” Lay your sins before him. Confess it to Him. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Then open up the door to worship Him in spirit and in truth. Clear the way for teaching and healing.

Prayer thoughts:

Dear Lord, check our hearts, minds, and spirit.

Show me where I’ve tried to hide things.

Show me forgiveness.
